Jodhaa Akbar Music Review

The songs which are in repeat mode now in my foobar is from Joddha / Jodha / Jodhaa Akbar. Everybody in the whole world knows that it's composed by A.R Rahman. Needless to say the songs are very good and very suitable of the theme of a period film.

My tastes are pretty odd, many a times they don't match with others. So

Azeem: The start is superb, the sound of some wind instrument(?). The flow is consistent.

In Lamhom: Yes, I've a soft corner slow songs. If those slow Rahman songs are sung by Sonu Nigam, the product is of premium quality (Remember ARR's Bose). MadhuSree voice is like that of Swarnalatha's voice.

Jashn: The best song of the album. The voice of J. Ali has striking resemblance with Sonu Nigam. But he's done a good job singing that. The mukhda is really nice. But the songs has the same feel as ARR's earlier "Jaane Bahara" from "dil ne jise aap se kaha" (sung by Kamal Khan - One of the best slow songs by ARR, but left unappreciated).

Khwaja: Sung by ARR himself. Starts of with harmonium in the background. The song may remind you of ARR "Haji Ali" (from Fiza, I guess), but make a very good listen.

Mann Mohana: The singer is Bela Shende. The start of the song is soothing with very less instrumentation. The voice is good and able to hit high notes easily. Many people didn't like this song as I read from their review. Again I beg to differ. A undercurrent of melacholy is thru out the song. The only problem is a wee bit deja vu and I feel there are songs in Swedes having similar patterns. The strongpoint of the song is its simplicity. I think no complicated exotic samples are used for this song.

Yes, I think Rahman has come with good tunes in this one. To tell you the truth, I was not very happy with recent Guru, Azhakiya Tamil magan, Sivaji etc. But my favorite period film remains

Bose - unforgettable Hero
